“White Ladder” is the fourth studio album by English singer-songwriter David Gray. It was first released in March 1999 through Gray’s own record label, IHT Records, but failed to chart. The album was re-released in November 2000 and became a massive commercial success in Ireland and the United Kingdom, spending a total of 175 weeks on the UK Albums Chart. It was also successful in other countries such as Australia and New Zealand. The album has sold over 3 million copies in the UK alone, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time there.
The album features a mix of folk, alternative rock and electronic music. The lyrics are introspective and melancholic, often dealing with themes of love and loss. The album’s most successful single was “Babylon”, which reached number five on the UK Singles Chart.
