Squid are an English post-punk band, but their sound incorporates elements from other genres like prog, free jazz, and Krautrock. This creates a unique and expansive soundscape.
Formation:
Squid formed in Brighton, England in 2016/2017.

Early Success:
While relatively new, they gained a strong reputation for their live performances. A venue owner even offered them a chance to perform as a way to practice, which helped them hone their sound.
Record Label:
They signed with Speedy Wunderground for their early releases and later moved to the well-respected Warp Records in 2020.
Releases:
They released their second EP, titled Town Centre, in 2019 to critical acclaim. Their debut album, “Bright Green Field,” was released in May 2021 on Warp Records. It received widespread acclaim and debuted at No. 4 on the UK Albums Chart.
Current Status:
Although some members are now based in Bristol, Squid is still considered a Brighton band. They continue to tour and create music.
They have been praised for their energetic and unpredictable live shows. Their music is often described as complex and challenging, but also rewarding for listeners who appreciate experimentation. Some of their influences include Neu! and This Heat.
