Mark King is an English musician, born on October 20, 1958 in Cowes, Isle of Wight, England. He is the lead singer and bassist of the jazz-funk band Level 42. King is known for his slap style of playing the bass guitar, with MusicRadar describing him as “the guy who put the slap in pop during the 80s”.
Level 42 is a British jazz-funk band formed in 1979 on the Isle of Wight. The band’s original line-up consisted of Mark King (bass, vocals), Phil Gould (drums), Boon Gould (guitar), and Mike Lindup (keyboards). They are known for their hit songs such as “Lessons in Love”, “Something About You”, and “Running in the Family”. The band has released over 14 studio albums and has sold over 30 million records worldwide.
