The story behind this ad:

In the fall of 1945, Marilyn, then Norma Jeane, had landed a photo session with Douglas Airlines to promote their newest luxury airplane, The DC-6. The Douglas DC-6 Airplane Ad Campaign launched in 1946 and is the first time Marilyn appeared in ANY advertisement for 1946. Even though she is wearing her natural hair colour, you will recognize her instantly as the young woman passenger sitting at the “window seat” on a Douglas DC-6.

Shortly after the first Douglas Airview issue in January 1946, Douglas began running this full colour oversize version in some of the major magazines for only a few issues, which makes it extremely rare. This is a complete issue of Time Magazine April 8th, 1946 (Volume XLVII – Number 14).

Marilyn Monroe (born Norma Jeane Mortenson; June 1, 1926 – August 4, 1962) was an American actress, model, and singer. Famous for playing comedic “blonde bombshell” characters, she became one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950’s and early 1960’s and was emblematic of the era’s changing attitudes towards sexuality. Although she was a top-billed actress for only a decade, her films grossed $200 million (equivalent to $2 billion in 2019) by the time of her unexpected death in 1962. More than half a century later, she continues to be a major popular culture icon.
