He was a huge fan of cars and motorcycles and often bought them as gifts for his friends and family. Some of his favourites were:
The pink Cadillac Fleetwood 60 that he bought in 1955 and gave to his mother, Gladys, even though she couldn’t drive. He had it painted “Elvis Rose” pink and customised it with gold-plated hubcaps, a record player and a phone.
The white Cadillac Eldorado that he bought in 1956 after a salesman snubbed him for his appearance. He asked a black car washer to accompany him back to the showroom and bought the car on the spot, then gave it to the car washer as a tip.
The BMW 507 that he drove while stationed in Germany as a soldier in 1958. He bought it from a racing driver and had it repainted from white to red because fans kept writing messages on it with lipstick.
The Rolls-Royce Phantom V that he bought in 1961 and had customized with a cocktail bar, a TV, a record player and an intercom. He used it for his wedding with Priscilla in 1967 and later donated it to a charity auction.
The Stutz Blackhawk that he bought in 1971 and was one of the first owners of this rare and expensive model. He loved it so much that he bought three more for his father, his girlfriend and his bodyguard3.
