In addition to his theatrical work, Godber has written for television series such as Brookside, Grange Hill, and Chalkface. He directed the film adaptation of Up ‘n’ Under and co-wrote the BAFTA-winning Odd Squad for BBC2. He is currently Creative Director of Theatre Royal Wakefield and continues to produce new work through the John Godber Company.
