In 1972, she joined the Grateful Dead, becoming the only female full-time member of the band during her tenure. Alongside her husband Keith Godchaux, she performed on landmark albums including Wake of the Flood, Blues for Allah, and Terrapin Station. Her voice added a soulful layer to the Dead’s live performances and studio recordings.

After leaving the band in 1979, Donna Jean continued to record and perform with The Donna Jean Godchaux Band, Heart of Gold Band, and various tribute and jam ensembles. Her legacy is deeply woven into the fabric of American rock history.
