Elvis first met Jack Lord whilst filming Paradise, Hawaiian Style in 1966 and they became friends.

Another Presley Collectibles piece, an Elvis Presley hand annotated and initialled Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel guest directory, contains notes Elvis made to remind to himself to arrange dinner with Jack Lord and Jack’s wife, Maria (stating Elvis had promised Jack and Maria!) Elvis then writes his philosophy for a happy life: “Someone to Love. Something to Look Forward to and Something to do.” Finally a reminder to “stop at the Jewel Palace (the Jewelry Shop at the Hilton Hawaiian Village) for gifts!”

Regarding the directory, Charlie Hodge states: “This Hilton Hawaiian Village hotel directory was one that was in Elvis’ room where we always stayed when we went to Honolulu. On the inside on the note pad Elvis has handwritten 3 separate notes on the paper inside the directory. One was a reminder to have dinner with Jack and Marie Lord, another one to stop at the hotel’s jewelers store to purchase some gifts and the last one was a saying that Elvis used to say and write down as a positive message for himself entitled Philosophy for a happy life.”

According to Charlie Hodge, this was is how Jack Lord greeted Elvis after the fabled Aloha Concert in 1973:

Elvis was resting in his dressing room right after the Aloha From Hawaii television special seen by two billion people around the world. One of the guys came in. ‘Elvis, there’s a guy out here that wants to see you. It’s Jack Lord’. Elvis tossed down the towel and looked up with a big smile. ‘Oh, yeah? Send him on in’.

Elvis was tickled to death.

Jack Lord lived on the island of Oahu and starred in the Television series, ‘Hawaii Five-O.’ Each television segment opened with a close shot of Jack standing on a balcony of the Ilikai Hotel. Elvis watched the show every week, back at Graceland or wherever he was.

Elvis wiped the sweat off his face and neck again. He always worked like a horse on stage. He gave his fans all he had. Jack came in and shook Elvis’ hand.

‘The show okay?’ Elvis asked.

Jack smiled. ‘You didn’t see me standing up on my chair and whistling?’
Elvis laughed. ‘The spotlights pretty well blind me, after I’m out there so long’, he said.

‘You know, a whistle can be the highest compliment’, Jack said. ‘It’s a tradition of the theater world, a high compliment between one actor and another. ‘At that moment, I wanted every person in this auditorium to stand up and cheer. ‘I don’t mean that as flattery. It means I suddenly got a gut feeling of the kind of thing you were going through on stage. ‘I have never heard such dramatic music in my life. Not anywhere. From anyone.’

Elvis pointed a finger at me. ‘Charlie, get this man a chair. We don’t want to lose him’.

Lord took a chair and crossed his slender legs.

‘Marie, my wife, and I want you and Priscilla to bring your entire party over to our place one night this week. Please, come.’ He looked around the room. ‘Everyone. Please, come. We want you to.’

Don’t miss out on these Elvis Presley Superfly Hats, gifted to Jack Lord.

FOR CUSTOMERS IN RUSSIA:

In recent years’ Russian authorities have increasingly tightened the regulations around shipping to their country. In 2016 a temporary ban on private individuals importing non-document shipments to other private individuals was in effect, with no definite end date given. In less formal terms, this means that if you want to buy a signed record from us and you live in St Petersburg, you need to have it sent to a business where you can collect it.

If you aren't able to collect your order, businesses in Russia are free to ship to other businesses, or private individuals, although the latter may involve extra paperwork. For businesses sending to private individuals, no tax or duties will be applied to shipments up to a value of EUR €1,000, or totaling 31kg per calendar month, anything above this will have duties and taxes applied. For all other shipments there is no import duty for packages below EUR €200 in value.
