Elvis Presley 1956 Photos Portfolio Elvis Comes Home – possibly issued 1987?

It was September, 1956, and Elvis was already a superstar. It was less than a year after RCA bought out his contract from Sun Records. The occasion for the King’s first triumphant return to his childhood hometown of Tupelo, Mississippi was the Mississippi-Alabama Fair and Dairy Show. Photographer Terry Wood captures the moment in this set with four great photos of Elvis, his parents, and Tupelo Mayor James Ballard.

Then Governor J.P. Coleman presented Elvis with a proclamation. The crowd, largely made up of teenage girls, goes wild as Elvis hits the stage. Tupelo photographer Terry Wood was 27 when he took these photographs. He had been a photographer in Tupelo for two years.

There are four 8×10 black and white photos in the collection (see photos) each protected in a heavy cream cardboard sleeve.
